Derek Johnson, Ph.D

Derek Johnson’s research primarily focuses on HIV/STIs and reproductive health in a global health setting. He received his Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California at San Diego in the division of infectious disease and global health. Derek’s previous research projects include investigating the barriers to HIV care in Malawi, increasing access to cervical cancer screening for women in Nepal, and detailing access to essential health services for individuals living in rural Myanmar. In addition to his academic endeavors, Derek has worked with the AIDS Activities Coordinating Office (AACO) at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health and with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders where he helped study the feasibility of providing HCV care to HIV/HCV co-infected individuals.
